What do I need to know before I start a transfer to Directnic?

Three Critical Preparation Steps

  1. Backup Your DNS Records: Document all DNS settings (A, MX, CNAME, TXT records) before transfer. DNS management may change post-transfer, and you'll need this backup to restore services at Directnic.
  2. Complete Changes Before Transfer: Once submitted, no modifications can be made to nameservers or contact information for 5 days. Verify all details are correct before initiating transfer.
  3. Plan for 5-Day Processing: Transfers automatically complete after 5 days per ICANN security protocols. Factor this timeline into your migration planning.

Essential Requirements

Domain Preparation

  • Active Status: Domain must not be expired.
  • Unlocked Status: Verify at Directnic WHOIS shows "ok". If not, unlock with your current Registrar.
  • Authorization Code: Obtain the EPP/auth code from your current Registrar.

Transfer Restrictions

  • 60-Day Lock: No transfers within 60 days of registration or previous transfer.
  • Renewal Waiting Period: May need to wait 45 days after renewing expired domains.

Security Assurance

These requirements protect against unauthorized transfers while ensuring seamless migration to Directnic's reliable platform.
