How do I transfer a domain name to another registrar?
Thinking About Transferring Your Domain?
We’re sorry to hear that you’re considering a transfer. We’d be more than happy to assist you in any way we can. Before proceeding, we recommend contacting our support team — we may be able to find a solution that works best for you.
Transfer Process
- Choose a new registrar and create an account with them.
- Get authorization code – Retrieve your EPP/Auth code by clicking the green Start button on your domain’s details page and follow the prompts.
- Unlock your domain – Flip the toggle beside Domain Lock on the details page.
- Initiate transfer with your new registrar following their instructions.
- Wait for transfer to complete
Key Requirements
Domains must be registered with your current registrar for at least 60 days before transferring, due to ICANN rules. Transfers are also restricted within 60 days of changing registrant details (name, organization, or email).
Important Notes
- Transfers typically take 5 days to complete.
- No changes can be made during transfer (e.g., nameservers, contacts).
- Your website will continue to function during the process.
- We recommend backing up DNS records before beginning.
Special Considerations
Requirements for ccTLDs (country-code domains) may vary. For example, .UK and .ES domains often have additional or unique transfer rules.
