Server Migration - FAQ

Directnic may at times, migrate email/hosting plans to better provide you with service optimized for your needs and for server maintenance. All of your files and email will be moved to the new server automatically. You will receive an email with details of the migration.

What You Will Need To Do -

Updating your DNS settings

To verify that your settings are correctly configured to keep email for your domain working, you can follow the instructions on this page depending on which name servers your domain is using: https://directnic.com/knowledge/article/167:how+do+i+set+up+the+mx+records+for+my+directnic+email+plan%3F

Updating your Email Client settings

To verify that your email client is connecting to the correct server that processes your messages, you will need to check and update your email client settings. Depending on the Email Client you are using, you can search through this FAQ list if we have a handy guide for it: https://directnic.com/knowledge/article/159:what+is+an+mx+record%3F#/knowledge/category/8

Common Questions:

Why can’t I receive and/or send email messages?

There are 2 possibilities: 1) It is possible that the A, CNAME or MX records being used by the domain have not been updated to the new server values. See the section for Updating your DNS settings. Or, 2) it is possible that your mail client is still using settings of the old server and needs to be updated. See the section for Updating your Email Client settings.

Directnic is hosting my website. Why is my site not properly displaying?

  1. Your theme/plugins/Wordpress platform is not updated. Having un-updated themes/plugins/Wordpress platform may cause issues with the functionality and display of your website. If you have built the website via cPanel's Installatron Software Installer tool, you will be able to easily update the Wordpress installation. Make sure that you create a backup of your site before you make any changes. You can update your Wordpress themes/plugins from inside its own console.
  2. Your PHP version is not updated. If the PHP version being used by the server by default does not match the version that your website requires, it may cause issues with it. To correct this, you simply use the Select PHP Version tool in your Hosting Console then select the version that your website requires.
  3. You have a conflicting index.php vs index.html. Having both index files in your root folder causes a conflict and browsers may mistakenly display index.php instead of index.html. If this happens, you can simply rename or delete index.php in the root folder of your domain (ex. /public_html/domain.com). You can do this by either using your preferred FTP client or by using the File Manager tool inside your hosting console. You can login to your Hosting Console by watching the instructional video on this page: https://directnic.com/knowledge#/knowledge/article/31
